A successful District Convention with Political parties


Bedari Gujranwala organized District Convention under the project, “Deepening Democracy and Election Support in Pakistan – DESP” by FAFEN.  District Presidents of political parties including, PMLN (Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz), PPP (Pakistan Peoples Party), PTI (Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaaf), Awami Workers Party, PMLQ (Pakistan Muslim League Quaid-e-Azam) attended the session.  A large number of people including women and
minorities also participated in the convention. The said political leaders were as follows:


  1. Rana Maqsood Ahmad (General Secretary/DeputyMayor-PMLN)
  2. Mushtaq Badal (Divisional General Secretary-PPPP)
  3. Rehana Butt (President Women wing-PPP Ghanva Bhutto)
  4. Ch. Nasir Soroya (President-PMLQ)
  5. Salahuddin (Vice Provincial President-Awami Working Party)
  6. Abid Ali (District Coordinator-Aam Log Party)
  7. Ch. Riaz Kamboh (President Kissan wing- PTI)

Objective of the convention was to present Charter of Demand to the heads of political parties for inclusion in their respective party’s manifestoes.  This Charter of Demand was prepared by Bedari Civil Society Alliance; which comprises of 20 civil society organizations of lawyers, laborers, trade unions, teachers’ associations and minorities. The Charter of Demand covered these certain aspects:

  • Education sector issues
  • Health sector issues
  • Administrative issues
  • Urban planning
  • Facilitation for people willing to work abroad
  • NADRA offices in the district
  • Need for clear policy to avoid tax evasion
  • Human rights issues (Labors, minorities, employment opportunities and gender rights)
  • Special public transport for women


Participants in the convention also raised their demands
to their political leaders.  It was decided that these demands will also be included in the Charter of Demand. Moreover, advocacy efforts will be made to ensure them as a part of political parties’ manifesto.
