Young Girls Got a Chance to Meet Policy Makers


Young girls from Lahore got a chance to know about pro women laws directly from policy makers.
Bedari organized one day exposure visit for young girls in Lahore under Building Child Marriage Free
Communities.The delegation of young girls met Dr. Nosheen Hamid (Member Punjab Assembly) along with Bedari Team.

Dr. Nosheen Hamid briefed the girls in  detail about pro women laws focusing on Child Marriage Law. Child Marriage bill when presented initially had been strongly opposed from a very powerful part of the parliament of that time. She shared the struggle of policy makers to get this bill approved. The situation have not been changed noticeably as even now pro women laws has to go through long processes for approval because of the resistances from majority of policy makers. However, there is improvement in women inclusion in policy making.

Saba from girl’s delegation presented their own written anti-child marriage resolution to Ms Nosheen Hamid and explained their points and demands one by one. Ms Nosheen Hamid read and signs the resolution and really appreciated the girls for drafting such a strong document. She expressed that it was very encouraging to see the confidence level of these girls.

After Punjab Assembly Bedari team took the girls to Lahore Zoo, Museum and Greater Iqbal Park where they played different games, visited historical monuments and enjoyed a lot.

Bedari will continue all its efforts to support girls education and with Mass mobilization, advocacy and lobbying to end Child Marriages in Pakistan
