Afifa Tul Kubra

My name is Afifa Tul Kubra. I am 15 years old now. And I am studying in the 10th class. My village is called Patthar, which is located in tehsil Telangana. We are 6 siblings. I am the eldest. My father has been mute since childhood and works as a tailor. My uncle’s two disabled sons also live with us. Because my uncle’s wife died 7 years ago and my uncle never remarried, it’s my mother’s responsibility to take care of all eight kids at home. I was excellent in my studies. In the group of GEI, I think I am the most deserving one. I’m very fond of giving speeches. I’m also fond of poetry. With the death of my mother in last year May I think I am losing interest in hobbies. My poor mother died while giving birth to the seventh child. I remember that this 2020 It was in the last months of the year when I was feeding my younger brother in the yard and village lady health worker Khala Shaheen came to our house and told my mother that she was severely anemic so she would not have any more children. When my mother told her something, the lady health worker started advising my mother to improve her diet. I couldn’t hear the full story of Amy and the Lady Health Worker. Due to the COVID lockdown were totally broken and without proper food. Abu’s shop is also closed. Because people didn’t have anything to sew clothes on. In such a situation, my mother couldn’t take care of her diet. Finally, in May, my mother gave birth to a stillborn baby due to anemia and died. I have taken many awareness training. Mother and I were very close, still cannot ask her to go for family planning. She completely neglected her health and died while giving birth to a baby girl. Now I have completed my matric and want to pursue my education, but the responsibilities of siblings and care sharing holding me back to secure my future. My siblings look up to me as their mother. All the siblings are younger than me. Despite being young, I have the responsibility of the disabled cousins and siblings. I can’t think about my schooling anymore. I believe women should care more about their health and life than improving their family situation. Instead of giving birth, if the mother had paid attention to her health, the story of our life would have been changed. My dreams died with my mother, and I am left with ten family members to look after. A strong and healthy woman can raise a prosperous family.
