Miss Jamila

My name is Jamla . I live in Lohay wali puli Lahore I am a social worker. I was interested in doing something for the marginalized society of our area. I saw that the condition of women in our area is very bad. There was a passion of doing something inside me, but I didn’t know that from where to take first step. When I explore the community more, it comes to know that 95 percent of men and women in my surrounding are deprived of ID cards. I took the lead of said purpose. Because the majority of the area is labor class so it was not easy for them to go to NADRA office daily for the CNIC. They didn’t consider the CNIC worthy full also. I myself did not even understand how to help so that they can easily approach the NADRA office for CNIC. Then one of my friends told me about Bedari which was running a project called She Can Lead and highlighting awareness among the community to bring women’s identity cards. After hearing the project name I felt that I should be part of this program. I joined this program as a member of the Women’s lead group. I got support and opportunity to talk about people’s problems with NADRA officials. Through the MRV I’ve made hundreds of people’s ID cards and this work is still going on. In the present situation if I face any problem regarding CNIC, I go to NADRA Officials and get the solutions at my own. I have been working with Bedari for 3 years. I learned that if we struggle for the collective issue with honestly, we can achieve what we want.

During the COVID -19 Roll of Jamila

Jamila is an active member of Lahore Women led Group. She is also a teacher. She has good social relations in her area. she performed volunteer activities in past in her area so when the lockdown happened, the people from her area expected help from her.  She distributed 10 Ration Bags to 10 needy families in surrounding her area. She placed ration bags each in distance of approximately 6 to 7 feet of distance for families and called the families one by one to carry their share and distributed masks for their families. During the process she also discussed safety measures and mental physical health issues and how to overcome these issues while isolation. She said “I did not take any pic or video clip of any one receiving Ration Bags by keeping in mind that it will effect someone’s dignity because they are all respected people with their own self-esteem and dignity.” As a teacher, she has engaged other teachers as well to aware their students and their parents who are in touch via telephone about staying at home. she stopped her tuition classes to follow the social distancing and providing help to her students through phone, She said, “Reasonable preventive measures are more important given the high likelihood of contracting Covid-19. avoid unnecessarily travel, use mask and gloves while going outside, try not to visit without any emergency, washing your hands regularly with soap and water; and staying away from large gatherings
