My name is Rubina Ahmed, 30 years old, a resident of small village union council Durana lingana located at district Multan. I belong to a traditional rich family where all decisions are taken by elders of the area (Panchayat). I completed my education (Masters) despite the opposition of my family and then I was married to my illiterate cousin. I faced lot of hardships after marriage and was unable to use my education for the welfare of women of my area. I decided to take initiative with the support of my husband, who taught me driving. One-day the project team, visited our village for community sessions which I also attended. Later on, I invited the project staff and all women of the area at my house. They accepted me as a member of Self-help group and gave me training on case management and sharpen up my leadership and decision-making skills. The project arranged sessions for all uneducated women of the area and cultivated them about their rights against domestic violence and laws which protect them from this social evil. This resulted an awareness among local women and they felt more empowered and secured. We are really thankful for the project and for this service. We feel more confident about our future and future of our children and family.
