Shabana is a young woman of 25 who lives in Ghazi Ghat, District Muzaffargarh. She suffers leg impairment in one leg due to polio. She is educated till eighth grade and her profession is stitching. Shabana has been a part of many awareness sessions and trainings conducted by Bedari including those on women rights of health and education, domestic violence and rights of persons with disabilities. She says that these trainings brought a change in her life and it became easier for her to come out of her house. She had received her disability specific identity card before her introduction to Bedari. “Though I had my special CNIC, it was only after coming into contact with Bedari that I got to know of its benefits.” She also faced difficulty during the process of getting her special CNIC because she had no one to facilitate her. She had to wait in long queues and also had to visit the NADRA office multiple times for this purpose. Now, she helps other women with disability with the process as Bedari provides them with pick and drop service from their homes to the concerned offices. Shabana admires Bedari’s contribution in easing mobility for women with disability. Special CNIC for her is an identity and a source of strength now that she is aware of the benefits that come with it.
